You’re helping Unyil the macaque make some new friends

For baby macaque Unyil, his new adventure is just beginning.

He’s just been released into a bigger enclosure at our partner sanctuary Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN), after spending some time recovering in quarantine (fuelled of course by his favourite banana treats).

And the best bit about his new digs? He’s got heaps of fellow macaques to play with!

Watch the video to see what Unyil’s been up to with his friends:

Unyil is the youngest and smallest of all the macaques you helped rescue from the dancing monkey trade in Indonesia. Thanks to you, these playful and curious wild animals no longer have to endure a lifetime of suffering performing tricks for tourists.

Unyil and his friends will spend a bit more time together in the socialisation enclosure, sharing delicious snacks and keeping each other looking sharp with plenty of grooming sessions.

Their carers at the sanctuary hope these deeply social animals will form a tightknit group, so that one day soon they can all be released back to the wild together.

Thank you for being there for Unyil and his friends as they begin their journey back to the wild.
